E-VAI, the Municipality of Sondrio, the Comunità Montana Valmalenco, the Polytechnic of Milan, Repower, the Polytechnic Foundation of Milan, Anci Lombardia, and the Bernina Region, participate in the European project LIVELINESS - Living Lab for inclusive sustainable cross-border mobility: a project based on Axis 3 of the programme, "Integrated and sustainable mobility", which has the objective of improving mobility in cross-border areas through interventions to increase the accessibility and integration of networks and the attractiveness of the public service to spread sustainable mobility .
The initiative
Given the challenges linked to mobility and social inclusion that the Valtellina region, first and foremost, and the Val Poschiavo, as a secondary consequence, will find themselves facing in the next 5 years with the presence of 2026 Winter Olympic Games, it is necessary to address the problem of connection and accessibility of these areas in a shared and innovative way by providing effective, modern and versatile mobility services.
Liveliness responds to these needs with a Living Lab focused on the implementation of sustainable and inclusive cross-border mobility solutions aimed at increasing the connectivity and competitiveness of the mountain areas of the Valtellina Cluster, Val Poschiavo and Bernina Region by pursuing some important objectives:
The reduction of inconvenience caused by inefficiencies of public transport, which does not meet the mobility needs of commuters in the area.
The development and use of the electric charging infrastructure network, already implemented in the Bernina area and the Municipality of Poschiavo.
The reduction of road congestion that affects the border area every day, thanks to the implementation of the carpooling system.
Technical details
The creation of a Living Lab for sustainable cross-border mobility allows you to implement and test an extensive and widespread transit network, based on electric car-sharing solutions, of soft mobility capable of offering travelers diversified, reliable and accessible possibilities in total integration with local public transport. LIVELINESS activates and tests a cross-border circular ring for mobility services, 100% sustainable and shared, which meets the needs of users (commuters, tourists, residents, etc.). The cross-border meaning and value is therefore the soul of the project which operates both in Valtellina and Valposchiavo pursuing the following actions:
Strengthening intermodality between trains, electric cars, bicycles and other electric vehicles for the capital of Valtellina.
Connection of the urban area and surrounding areas of Sondrio and Valmalenco through 100% sustainable transport.
Integration of the mobility of Valtellina and its capital with that of the Lake Como area.
Creation of a cycle station to encourage gentle mobility in the capital of Valtellina.
