E-VAI is one of the seven partners of the European I Share LIFE project financed under the Life programme. The project started in 2018 is coordinated by FNM and involves beyond E-VAI also NordCom, Consorzio Poliedra, Dyvolve and the city of Osijek in Croatia. The objective is to test whether the new sustainable and shared mobility services are sustainable from an environmental but also economic point of view and therefore replicable in 34 other locations with similar characteristics.
The initiative
The project aims to reduce pollutants and atmospheric loads, in particular PM10 and NO2, and to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions caused by road transport and urban mobility. To achieve the objectives, four new car sharing models were tested in medium and small urban areas in Lombardy and in Osijek in Croatia. For the experimentation, 50 full electric cars were used in Italy and 8 in Croatia.
Intermodality
With the aim of promoting sustainable travel among the commuter target, the I Share Life project also includes the integration between the car sharing service E-VAI and the regional rail system. To achieve this goal E-VAI has entered into a partnership with Trenord which includes a promotion dedicated to season ticket holders to encourage intermodal travel (train + car sharing) with low environmental impact.
Car sharing models
All car sharing models tested in Lombardy are based on the sharing of vehicles by different subjects, in order to optimize and reduce the number of conventional internal combustion vehicles in circulation and the atmospheric load of pollutants.
The car sharing models tested in Busto Arsizio and Bollate include the intermodality of electric cars E-VAI with the regional railway system. The vehicle, in fact, is shared between commuters for the journey home to the station and companies near the station or employees to reach industrial areas poorly served by public transport.
Another car sharing model is dedicated to tourists and has been tested in Como in order to encourage low environmental impact tourism.
Finally, the latest model tested in Bergamo involves sharing the car between the Municipality and citizens at different and compatible times: during working hours the car is used by municipal employees for work missions, outside working hours and on weekends cars are available to citizens.
