The way of moving in the city is changing thanks to digital technologies and we are increasingly talking about smart mobility, i.e. intelligent and citizen-friendly mobility, which uses technology to make travel in urban areas greener, more comfortable and convenient.

Building a new idea of mobility means rethinking cities and redefining urban spaces, reducing the environmental impact of the transport sector and optimizing economic, human and environmental resources to respond effectively and efficiently to new social and cultural needs, thus improving the quality of life of citizens.

Smart Mobility is a system that includes different forms of transport integrated together:

  • E-mobility
  • Sharing mobility
  • Intermodal mobility
  • micro-mobility
  • Mobility as a Service (MaaS)

Intelligent mobility is a concept closely linked to the idea of smart city where, through the widespread use of new technologies, the material infrastructures of cities are connected with the human, intellectual and social capital of those who live there in order to satisfy the needs of citizens, businesses and institutions.

Smart mobility therefore plays a fundamental role in the construction of "smart cities" and aims to offer citizens a completely new, flexible, integrated, on-demand and convenient mobility experience from the first to the last mile.

The objectives are multiple: reduce pollution and road congestion, create intelligent and seamless flows, strengthen economies of scale to promote mobility accessible to all.

According to a survey conducted by Geotab, global leader in the field of IoT, connected and electric vehicles, here are the five trends that will characterize the mobility sector in 2021:

  1. Fleet efficiency
  2. Corporate car sharing
  3. Electric and hybrid vehicles
  4. 5G and Artificial Intelligence
  5. Supplementary services

Smart mobility: the 10 key concepts of intelligent mobility

The goal of smart mobility is to make vehicle flows faster, more efficient and less polluting, but to achieve this goal, intelligent mobility must satisfy ten fundamental requirements:

  1. Accessibility: transport must be easily accessible to all;
  2. Safety: smart mobility reduces urban congestion and the number of road accidents;
  3. Flexibility: multiple modes of transport allow travelers to choose the best means to undertake a specific journey and reach the destination;
  4. Efficiency: intelligent transport allows the traveler to reach the destination easily, safely and in the shortest possible time;
  5. Sustainability: the different forms of intelligent mobility have a lower environmental impact and promote new eco-friendly solutions;
  6. Convenience: Smart means of transport must be safe, efficient and at a price within everyone's reach;
  7. Intermodality: the term refers to the combined use of different means of transport with a consequent optimization of times;
  8. ICT infrastructures: smart mobility makes use of ICT technologies to simplify the use of urban transport services;
  9. Sharing: smart mobility is closely linked to the sharing economy which shares the importance of the sharing principle with intelligent mobility;
  10. Social benefits: intelligent mobility must contribute to achieving a better quality of life at an individual and social level.

Smart mobility: electric car sharing E-VAI

According to the data of Smart Mobility Report 2020, the report drawn up by School of Management of the Milan Polytechnic in collaboration with Energy&Strategy Group, e-mobility and sharing mobility are the two macro-trends that are redesigning the world of mobility, making it more sustainable, connected and accessible.

One of the most significant examples of synergy between shared mobility and electric mobility in the car sharing context is E-VAI, the first electric car sharing in Lombardy which aims to improve mobility at a regional level starting from sustainability and respect for the surrounding environment.

The purpose of E-VAI is to simplify and make travel throughout the Region more efficient by building a large and connected network of low environmental impact car sharing cars. To do it E-VAI uses fleets made up exclusively of electric and hybrid cars that allow you to easily move from the city center or the province to the main transit hubs.

Silent, light and easy to drive, the cars E-VAI, thanks to C02 emissions reduced to a minimum, they have free access to Limited Traffic Zones and Area C and it is possible to park them in the spaces delimited by blue and yellow lines.

Rent a car E-VAI it's simple: just connect to the official website or download the App available for iOS and Android. There are no registration fees for the service and, once registered, simply identify theE-VAI Point nearest, book your car and pick it up conveniently at the indicated time. The vehicle can then be returned to any of the E-VAI Point present in Lombardy.

Sustainability and territoriality are the main characteristics of E-VAI which promotes an idea of greener mobility and to date is the only car sharing active at a regional level with over 140 E-VAI Point distributed throughout the territory in proximity to urban areas, extra-urban areas, airports and railway stations.

E-VAI it is not only sustainable and innovative but also economical and to allow everyone to try the electric driving experience it has thought of a special promotion dedicated to new members: by registering for free for the service the first hour of rental is free until 31 December 2021.

How to take advantage of the promotion? By registering for free for the service on the official website or by downloading the App E-VAI, filling in the fields with the required data and entering the code EVAI2021 in the "Promotional Code" field. The discount will be applied to the base hourly rate and will be valid exclusively for new members until 31 December 2021.
